East Coast
06/12/2009 - Last week I made a field trip to the german east coast. It was the coldest beginning of June since thirty years and we camped on Ruegen. It was so cozy in my tent... Unfortunately I could only take few pictures. This photo shows a colony of the Great Horsetail (Equisetum telmateia):

100 Percent
03/27/2009 - In the german movie  "100 Prozent" (100 Percent) I will play a small role. Director is Carsten Pütz. More about the film (here).

Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla Motors, gives also 100 percent. Today he announced model S, an outstanding electric car. It carries 7 people, travels 300 miles per charge, does 0-60 mph in less than six seconds and looks really good.

The estimated price is around 50.000 Dollar and costs half the price of the Tesla Roadster. "Model S doesn't compromise on performance, efficiency or utility -- it's truly the only car you need," said Elon Musk. "Tesla is relentlessly driving down the cost of electric vehicle technology, and this is just the first of many mainstream cars we're developing." Production is expected to start in 2011. It is very likely that it will be the first mass-produced electric car of the world. More information (here).

Would you like a different kind of vacation?
03/16/2009 - Do you have enough of swimming and tanning on the beach? May it be a bit different kind of vacation? Teaching kids in Tanzania English for example or helping scientist with the evaluation of the effects of global warming in Canada? Or rather assisting with the unearthing of roman ruins? Organisations like the Earth Watch Institute offer volunteers the different vacation. I read an interesting article about that on time.com (link). Such a vacation can be very fulfilling and gives the opportunity to get to know the locals far better than standard tourism. However a traditional vacation is a fine thing too.
